Mock earthquake drill conducted in Kashmir
Divisional administration Kashmir in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Government of India conducted a Mock Drill on Earthquake in Srinagar at Hotel Heemal on the busy Boulevard Road.
DIVISIONAL ADMINISTRATION Kashmir in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Government of India conducted a Mock Drill on Earthquake in Srinagar at Hotel Heemal on the busy Boulevard Road where senior officers of District administration Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal participated.
 
Since Srinagar and its adjoining areas fall in Seismic Zone V and are vulnerable to earthquakes, therefore on the instructions of Naseem Lanker, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, a one-week programme to create awareness about disasters especially earthquakes mock drills has been launched by Disaster Management, Kashmir. As part of the programme Mock drills will be held at Baramulla on March 17 and 18, where officers from Kupwara and Bandipore will also attend and on March, 19 and 20 a Mock drill will be held at Anantnag where officers from Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam will also participate.

 
Brigadier (Dr.) B.K. Khanna, Senior Specialist (Trainings) National Disaster Management Authority Govt. of India conducted the mock exercise. Present on the occasion were Addl. Dy. Commissioner Srinagar & CEO District Disaster Management Authority, Aamir Ali, Coordinator Disaster Management Kashmir & OSD with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Addl. District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, SSP Srinagar, Jt. Dir & Dy. Dir Fire Service, District Health Officer Srinagar, Sanitation Officer SMC Srinagar, Commandant Auxillary Police, Dy. Controller & Chief Warden Civil Defence Srinagar, Area Commander Home Guards, senior district and divisional authorities and was also attended by many tourists and locals.
 
On March 15 a table top exercise had been organised at Srinagar which was attended by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, senior officers of District Administration, Police, Fire Service, SMC, Health & Medical Education, J&K SRTC, Civil Defence, Home Guards and Auxiliary Police and representatives from print and electronic media. School safety awareness programme was also organised at Tyndale Biscoe School and Mallinson Girls School where Brigadier Khanna and his wife, both made presentations to around 400 students. Captains, Vice-Captains, Helpers and Class Monitors, both boys and girls were imparted awareness cum training.
 
The students and staff members were made aware of various disasters and preparedness measures and precautions required to be taken before, during and after a disaster, especially earthquakes. Director Tyndal Biscoe Parwez Samuel Kaul and the Principal of Mallinson Girls School & Kashmir Valley School, along with their staff members were taught the procedure to prepare school disaster plans. Posters & IEC material prepared by Disaster Management Kashmir was also distributed.
