Mockery of poll system: Captain Amarinder Singh to contest from two seats
Our politicians make a mockery of the poll-system while contesting from more than one seat, knowing very well that they can represent only one constituency.

Now, Captain Amarinder Singh (Congress) is going to contest from two constituencies in Punjab state Assembly elections. In case of his winning from both seats, he will have to resign from one of the seats costing the exchequer heavily in conducting fresh by-polls for the vacancy caused. It is indeed sorry that politicians for their own selfish interests are at liberty to gamble by contesting from more than one constituency.

It is beyond understanding why even such a small poll-reform has yet not been implemented even after sixty five years of India having a Constitution, when a person may not be allowed to gamble by contesting from more than one constituency or for both Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha. Rather a sitting Member of Parliament or state-legislature must resign from his/her earlier seat before being allowed to file a nomination for some other seat. At least such a small poll-reform should not be kept pending in the name of achieving never-to-be achieved political consensus on poll-reforms.

Also auto-termination of Parliament membership on a Parliamentarian taking oath as minister (or Chief Minister) in a state and vice-versa etc should be implemented urgently to prevent repeat of the incident like Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government losing by a single controversial vote of the then Orissa Chief Minister Girdhar Gomango.
