A 243 page comprehensive report prepared by SP Tamang led enquiry commission has raised many controversial questions pertaining to the 2004 encounter, in which Ishrat Jahan and four others were killed by the crime branch police of Ahmedabad.
NARENEDRA MODI government has once again received flak from an enquiry commission constituted to investigate the 2004 encounter of five people including Ishrat Jahan.
A 243 page comprehensive report prepared by the SP Tamang led enquiry commission has raised many controversial questions pertaining to the 2004 encounter, which was carried out by the Ahmadabad Crime Branch. The commission has clearly mentioned that “Ishrat was innocent and was killed only because she was a Muslim and fitted the Gujarat Police’s idea of a terrorist.” The commission further added that the fake encounter was carried out to get out of turn promotion and reward from the Gujarat government headed by Narendra Modi.
Ishrat Jahan and four others were killed in the year 2004 in a controversial encounter, by the crime branch police of Ahmedabad. During that time senior police officials from the crime branch defended the encounter saying the deceased terrorists were from dreaded Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist group who had come to Gujarat to eliminate the Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Reacting on the commission’s report, Mukul Sinha who is pursuing legal case on behalf of the 19-year-old Ishrat Jahan’s family said, “Its cold blooded murder and the court came to the conclusion that the murder was committed for personal gain and to get the praise of the Chief Minister Narendra Modi.” He added that the stand taken by the family members of Ishrat that Ishrat Jahan wasn’t a terrorist but an innocent girl who was encountered for personal gains by the police department has been justified now.
Those accused in the shocking encounter include many senior officials of the Gujarat police, some of these are PC Pandey (additional DGP intelligence), KR Kaushik (retired police commissioner) and Tarun Barot (SI with Ahmedabad Crime Branch).
