The mention of such things in the write-up of Justice Katju, president Press Council of India, has upset the BJP and they are demanding his resignation. In his article, Justice Katju wrote that there is a mystery surrounding the Godhra train incident. After this incident, he alleged that targeting of Muslims and Gujarat riots were pre-planned.
The claims of development and criticism by Modi were dismissed. In the end, he appealed to Indians to take care while casting their votes; otherwise they will commit the same mistake, which was done by the people of Germany in 1933.
Arun Jaitely, senior BJP leader called it a politically motivated article in the Rajya Sabha. Katju holds a constitutional post and such statements should not come from him, and in case, he wants to be active in politics, he should resign, Jaitely said.
He even claimed that the article was written by Justice Katju is lieu of the thanks for the post, given to him after his retirement. This is not the first time that such statements have been coming from the loyalists of party in power but the person sitting on the chair of responsibility must realize his duties and should be impartial, Jaitley said.
We may agree or disagree with his statements but the same cannot be rejected straightway. Being the head of the press council, he should not issue politically motivated statements, but at the same time, this could be his personal opinion, and nobody can stop him using freedom of speech.
