Mohali in Panjab to host national conference on education of persons with disabilities
Chandigarh College of Education, Landran, Mohali, Panjab, is going to organize a conference on "Education of Persons with Disabilities: Reality, Reflection and Reforms" on April 12 and 13. The overarching aim of the conference is to promote and implement inclusion of Children with Special Needs (CWSN) in main stream an attempt has been made to understand and discuss the educational and social phenomena on inclusive education at local, national and international levels.

It is a sorry state of affairs to know that children with disabilities remain marginalized across the region, with their right to education far from being fully realized. The barriers to the inclusion of children with special needs can be overcome through active collaboration between policy-makers, education personnel and other stakeholders, including the active involvement of members of the local community," state the organizers in the concept note for the conference.

Further, the conference is not just about critical analysis of what we have not been able to do well, but it is about looking forward to ways of providing high quality education to all children where inclusion and excellence can co-exist. It will challenge current hegemonic notions of inclusive education and encourage critical thinking and research aimed at developing local models of inclusion which respond to ground realities, hold the event organizers.

Various sub-themes of the conference are:  Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016; implications for various stakeholders;  best inclusive practices in India and other countries;  challenges and issues for implementing inclusive education;  teacher education curriculum for inclusive education; education & employment of persons with disabilities;  moving from access to equity for children with disabilities; instructional strategies for CWSN; teacher educators for inclusive society; and assistive technologies.
