Money used like flowing water for London Olympics: Is it necessary?
Everyone is eager for the London Olympics, but the games might not be all that rosy for some people in the country. There might be a decrease in the number of tourist inflow in 2012.

THE WORLD is gradually gearing up for the mega event of the year, the London Olympics, 2012, which is scheduled to take place from 27 July to August 12. But not everyone in the UK is waiting for the games to start, as some expect that the games are not going to benefit certain business sectors of the country.

Though the nation may have seen huge developments in the recent past after it was announced that London would be hosting the games, many people are expecting to make mega money due to the event. The official tourism agency in Britain, says that there might be a decrease in the number of tourist in Britain in the year, 2012, unless, there is a serious marketing push towards it, reported The Financial Times. Aren’t the games supposed to garner in more tourists?

There has been a huge budget that has been used for the games. An estimated amount of GBP 9.3bn, which is public money, has been used to build one of Europe’s largest urban parks. So, is this their way of using public money, when the national economy may not be in a good position during the games? While some say the games will bring in more economical gains in the future, which are going to benefit the nation in the longer run - how will they shape the future, when their present is not going in the right direction? People can only hope that they would benefit in 2013. Around GBP 1 billion will be used for the security cordon during the games.

At a time, when the economic condition of the nation is not stable, with people losing jobs, UK's Prime Minister, David Cameroon, ordered an increase in the budget for the opening ceremony of the games to a whopping GBP 81 million, reported The Financial Times. On November 2011, there were around one million people who were unemployed and the situation has not changed much.

It has also been reported that a poll had been conducted, which showed that only 13 per cent of the people felt that the games would benefit their lives. The poll results speak volumes about the expectations from the people.
