A number of on-field spat might have taken place in IPL ever since its inception in 2008, but the recent spat between Kieron Pollard and Mitchell Starc in yesterday's IPL match can be termed as father of all spats. It was an ugly incident, where Pollard lost his cool and threw his bat towards Starc.
ugly incident took place in the 17th over of the match
between Bangalore and Mumbai. It was the fifth ball of the over,
where Starc came steaming in to bowl to Pollard, who backed off to
the leg side following some distraction. But, Starc followed the
player and bowled at him. Pollard did not appreciate this move of
Starc, and spontaneously threw his bat towards Starc in anger and
also took some steps towards Starc as well.
the bat did not reach anywhere near Starc but landed near Pollard's
feet only. Before the situation went out of hand, the umpires S Ravi
and K Srinath took control of the situation to avert any further ugly
scenes. Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle played an important part, where
the latter walked upto his fellow country mate Pollard and cooled
down the matter.
the match referee, Andy Pycroft is not expected to take the mater
lightly. Both the international players are expected to be punished
for the act.
