Any change in prices of products with government-administered prices should be affected without giving any pre-indication. Further, there should be a consensus of having the same structure of local taxes all over the country.
IN THE recent past, a new but improper trend has emerged that the Union government, through its petroleum minister or some other functionary reveals its intentions of change in fuel prices as was done by Murli Deora on Saturday. During the recent strike by public sector oil companies, oil stock finished earlier at petrol pumps because the dealers were not maintaining stock in full capacity, because of fear of loss in maintained stocks due to forthcoming decline in oil prices as indicated by government functionaries.
Any change in prices of products with government-administered prices should be affected without giving any pre-indication. Further consensus of having same structure of local taxes amongst states should be achieved for such products to have their prices uniform and same all over the country for all states. It is unfair to have prices of oil products vary vastly in different states.
