Movie review of Amazon Obhijaan: This expedition is nothing but a painless surgery of Amazon by one of the finest doctors
Since films like 'Amazon Obhijaan' are beyond review, so here I am trying to peel off the layers of myth to establish the reality.

First myth that Kamaleswar Mukherjee thinks that he is better than Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. OK, the storyline and formation doesn't seem like he anyways tries to surpass or overpower 'Chander Pahar'. Team 'Amazon Obhijaan' offers a visual tribute to the legendary author.

Second myth that 'Amazon Obhijaan' is basically 'Chander Pahar 2'. Again a big no! It's a different movie to entertain people in the way 'Chander Pahar' or 'Yeti Obhijaan' had done earlier. Just like 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' is not part II of 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', although in both the films, SRK plays the character Rahul and both have been produced by Karan Johar. It's better to use the term franchisee film.

Third myth is that the term biggest film is a publicity stunt. Again, this myth is false. It is really huge. Undoubtedly, this is the biggest and costliest film ever made in Bengali cinema.

Fourth myth, that Dev is incompetent to portray any sincere character. Agreed, but if we take a look at his last few films then it is clear that Dev is moulding himself and going through a ascending graph. Dev as Shankar Roy Chowdhury here is a bit matured than 'Chander Pahar'.

Fifth myth, that the VFX of the film are a disaster. Now I agree here. VFX of the film have really turned up as disastrous visuals but here some points need to be clarified. If we compare the film with some of the biggest films then at first we have to know the difference between visual effects (VFX) and computer generated imagery (CGI). Most people often tend to get confused between both these terms. But the truth is that if we consider CGI then 'Amazon Obhijaan' is very much there, but if we consider the term VFX, then 'Baahubali 2' is no better and so is 'Yeti Obhijaan'. But all these films turned up well due to their scale and imagination. Similarly, if you look at the bond film 'Die Another Day', isn't the scene showing Pierce Brosnan parasurfing over a computer generated tsunami laugh-worthy? Even in many scenes of 'Baahubali 2', the characters look like cut-outs in reference to the background.

Finally, the film has been shot in the Amazon rainforests, becoming the first movie to be shot there. Soumik Halder's cinematography is the lifeline of the film especially with some underwater scenes. The music and background score by Debojyoti Mishra is up to the mark. Foreign actors David James and Svetlana Gulakova as Florian father-daughter are cherry toppings in the cake. The film lasts for 140 minutes which is a bit lengthy and the climax of the film could have been better.
