Movies that topped 2013 box office
2013 proved to be a big year in Bollywood with a number of big hits. It witnessed some power packed performance from the biggest Bollywood stars, breaking old records and creating new ones. Some small budget films also did remarkable business with some of them receiving applauds even more so than those high budget movies, which just doomed at the box office.

Some notable movies which left an impression in the minds of people this year are Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Krissh 3, Dhoom 3 etc.While there were some other movies highly acclaimed by the critics such as Lunch box, Kai Po Che, Aashiqui 2, Bombay Talkies, Raanjhana, Madars Cafe, and Goliyon ki Raslila Ram -Lila are also going to be remembered for long.

Here is a list of movies in the year, which did considerably well in terms of being a top grosser.

Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (May 2013)

This Ranbir - Deepika movie was a big hit amongst youngsters and everyone loved their chemistry on screen. It was fully loaded with romance, drama, fun, beautiful locations, and lovely songs, which made this movie worth watching. Despite the city centric theme , it was loved by elites as well as small town audiences helping it to becoming one of the biggest hit not only of the year, but also for Ranbir Kapoor.

This had a power packed performance from both the stars, and the movie has grossed more than 170 crore till date.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (July 2013)

This movie is a biopic on the life of India's greatest athlete Milkha Singh, played by Farhan Akhtar. The movie was made with a small budget but on the contrary it attracted more audience than expected and also received great reviews from critics. Directed by Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra, nobody would have expected this movie to enter the 100 crore club, but it did so. This gripping biopic produced and directed with mainstream sensibilities, worked across the board and became a huge hit with elite and the entire population of bollywood lovers. The movie has grossed 108.93 crores.

Chennai Express (August 2013)

With this movie, King Khan looked at his usual best smashing records all around. This movie not only smashed the record of highest grossing movie, all time, but also set many more records with it. The star studded movie saw Shahrukh Khan in lead with Deepika Padukone and others. Chennai Express became the highest grossing Bollywood film in Indiawith 227.13 crores, as per the stats in bollyhoodhungama.com.

Goliyon ki Raslila Ram - Leela (November 2013)

Another masterpiece from Sanjay Leela Bhasali - Ramleela, which was drawn into controversy due to its name. But, the movie had much more to deliver with the power packed performance by Ranveer Singh, and Deepika Padukone directed beautifully by Bhansali. This movie had all the necessary ingredients required for a movie to make it a masterpiece, the songs, the location, the costumes, the music. It was just a visual treat. The movie also joined the 100 crore club.

Krishh 3 (December 2013)

Topping the chart till date is Indian superhero flick Krishh 3, which caught everyone's attention irrespective of the age and gender. Although sequels mostly do not work in Bollywood but this movie wronged the theory. Hrithik Roshan was the main lead while Vivek Oberoi played the super villian, and two beauties of Bollywood Priyanka Chopra and Kagana Ranaut were also important characters of the movie. This movie also become the top grossing movie, smashing the record established by Chennai Express.

Now, Krrish 3 has set the bar with box office collections of Rs 244.92 crore, as per bollyhoodhungama.com and the numbers are still on the increase.
