Mr. Dev Anand: Brief profile
I am proud to tell my readers on Merinews that Mr. Dev Anand, the evergreen Hero of the Indian film industry of India is my uncle in the sense that his father, Mr. Pashauri Mal Anand, and my grandfather, Mr. Gauri Shankar Anand, were real brothers.

I AM mentioning below some of the main features of his profile:

He was born in Gharuta village in Dinanagar, Gurdaspur District of Punjab on 26 September 1923.

After graduating from Government College in Lahore (Undivided India) he went to Bombay to find a role in the film industry, and found a role in his first movie “Hum Ek Hain" in the mid-forties.

He has played the lead actor for more than six decades in over 110 movies.

He has been given many awards for his extraordinary talent; there is no end to such awards.

Besides being a good actor he has lot of humility as a person.

He never looks back and always looks ahead because he has a very strong vision of the future. This is why, therefore, he is still active in producing movies.

He is in fact an “evergreeen living legend" of Indian cinema.

He is the head of his film production house Navketan Intenatonal Films, which was founded in 1949; it is now managed by his son Suneil Anand;

Shekhar Kapoor, his nephew, has also made a good name in the Film Industry. His movie Bandit Queeen was superb.

He has introduced a number of people in the film Industry by way of actors, directors, music composers and cinematographers; even today he continues on this path.

He also heads one of the finest Film Sound Post-Production facilities in India - Anand Recording Studios - which has to its credit more than 3,000 Indian feature films that have been mixed/ surround mixed for worldwide release.

Most recently, in April 2003, Anand was given a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' by the F.I.F.A. Committee in Johannesburg, South Africa. For an Indian movie icon who has hobnobbed with royalty, heads of states and celebrities, he has done it all. Anand continues to forge ahead with his new All American Film Project "Song of Life" - a musical love story, which will be entirely shot in the United States. He will play the central character in this film which will have a predominantly American star cast and for which the Music will be composed by American composers and sung by American singers. "Song of Life" will be made in English and will be directed by Dev Anand.

His elder brother, Mr. Chetan Ananad and his younger brother Mr. Vijay Anand (Goldie), who are unfortunately no more, directed and produced a number of movies under the Navketan Production Unit.

I have met Dev Anand a number of times, and it is always nice talking to him; I also call him and he feels very happy. I have no words to express my thoughts about his highly useful and encouraging career in the film industry.

I wish that he goes on in the film industry just as he has done in the past so many decades.
