Mr. Modi it's BJP, not the Congress responsible for Jharkhand's poor condition
Despite an ardent fan of Narendra Modi’s speech, I was really shocked to hear Modi blaming to Congress and the Central government for worst condition of Jharkhand. While comparing with Chhattisgarh, Modi said that had it been BJP's rule in Jharkhand for 10 years like in Chhattisgarh, the condition of Jharkhand would not have been this worst.

This speaks either Modi didn’t do his home work properly or very wrongly informed and misguided. Thus the entire speech which also had some good visions also gone wasted and became one of the most erroneous speeches he made ever.

Frankly speaking, for the worst condition of Jharkhand, BJP is responsible. BJP ruled the state for around 10 years (including 5 months of Shibu Soren’s rule supported by BJP)! Apart from first 3 years of BJP rule, next 7 years simply created chaos and corruption stalling the growth of the Jharkhand. Balance three years were ruled by Shibu Soren, Madhu Koda, Hemant Soren and the President's rule.

Let me elaborate how Jharkhand from a very promising state journeyed to a very pathetic state and how BJP contributed in it.

Babulal Marandi was the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand sworn on 15th November 2000. He ruled till 17th March of 2003. This was perhaps the golden period for Jharkhand. Babulal Marandi did fabulous development in the state during this period and soon called a true Vikash Purush.

His contribution towards improving road network, building greater Ranchi, making rural connectivity through constructing various bridges etc soon made an impact on Jharkhand's people who started dreaming to be part of a developed state. This was a state at that time with a surplus budget thanks to the honest Chief Minister and rich natural resources. But Babulal Marandi had to resign.

Though the issue behind the resignation of Marandi was cited as the controversial domicile issue, but the fact was otherwise. Inder Singh Namdhari of JD (U) and the then speaker of Jharkhand Assembly wanted to change the Chatra SP Anil Palta for his personal vendetta, which Marandi refused to do because he personally knew that the SP was honest, dynamic and capable of curbing naxal menace.

Then the JD (U) raised the domicile issue and threatened to withdraw its support. Also the then Jharkhand in-charge Rajnath Singh (the present BJP president) was unhappy with Marandi because the later had refused to pay hefty funds to the Party!

Thus Marandi compelled to resign and Arjun Munda who started his carrier as Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and then switched to BJP took over as Chief Minister on 18th March 2003. Since then all developmental works started stalling, corruption increased and a surplus budget state turned in to a deficit budget state!

Munda transferred Anil Palta within 24 hours and became loyal to the party high command. Thus he served for the high command and Jharkhand's upward journey became a downward one. During the 2005 elections, knowing Arjun Munda’s unpopularity, the BJP decided not to project him as Chief Minister, rather indirect indications were given that Babulal Marandi could be the chief minister again. Thus BJP again bagged 30 seats and supports of the independents.

There was though a drama orchestrated by the Congress and the Governor of Jharkhand by swearing in Shibu Soren despite no number, however with Supreme Courts intervention, Shibu Soren had to resign and BJP-led NDA called to form the government. Everybody was sure that Babulal Marandi would be the chief minister, but surprisingly in a last moment change that was imposed from BJP high command, Arjuna Munda was made the chief minister.

This not only broke the hearts of BJP cadres and Jharkhand's public but also ceased road for BJP. The so called opportunistic coalition government though worked but also became damaging to Jharkhand’s growth. During 2009 elections BJP got only 18 seats and Babulal Marandi-led JVN won 11 seats while contesting only on 14 seats.

Thus Modi’s blaming the Congress for worst condition in Jharkhand is just a lie. If he really wanted BJP’s fortune in Jharkhand, then he has to accept the fact and take necessary corrective steps. Babulal Marandi is the tallest leader in Jharkhand. He doesn’t have a very strong organization, but has own stature. Thus Modi should try to bring back Marandi to BJP giving him command of the Jharkhand.

At present JDU did a poll arrangement with JVM (Jharkhand Vikash Morcha). But if Modi and others insist, then Marandi may come back and if he has been given a free hand, he can bring fortunes for BJP, as every Jharkhand voter like him and follow him!

But before that, BJP has to admit its faults in Jharkhand and commit that such blunders will not happen again. Never under estimate the capability of  the people of Jharkhand in understanding the politics. It is that state which defeated Shibu Soren, the serving chief minister in the bi-elections through which he wanted to become the member of assembly. He not only was defeated but also pushed to third position, following which he had to resign!

Finally, it would be a request to Modi, that he should do home work and know the facts of a state before commenting or criticizing. He must also realize that he might be misguided. He has his strong team and should always cross check the facts presented to him. Otherwise public would start doubting his vision and mission.
