Surat City was conferred with two awards constituted by Annual Survey of India's City-Systems (ASICS) at a function
held in Delhi. These awards are 'quality of life' and 'quality of city systems' and both of these awards went to Surat city
as the best urban city this year. These awards were presented by Chairman Emeritus, Infosys Ltd., Mr. Narayan Murthy.
Surat city bagged this award after a survey of top Indian cities was done. On behalf of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC).
While accepting these awards, the Commissioner of SMC gave these remarks, "Surat has been adjudged as the best city in quality of life and quality of city system. The parameters included mobility, water supply network, cleanliness, public amenities, pollution control, greenery, safety and easy processes of getting work done at the Corporation."
Pune stood second and Ahmedabad was placed third in the quality of life category. In the category of quality of city, Ahmedabad was placed second and Chennai was placed third.
