Mr. Sonowal, after a historic victory in Assam, now it's time to act
At last the people of Assam have opted for a change. It's not only a change of governance, but also a change in attitude. The BJP's call for a change has been accepted and people have given Sarbananda Sonowal a chance to prove his caliber.

The wave of 'Change' has devastated an age-old party who had been in power for last fifteen years in the state. Demoralizing their intent to rule Assam for the fourth time, the unprecedented win of BJP-led alliance in the State gave a shock to those who in the last fifteen years did nothing for the common people rather than building their own empires (as is seen, but no legal proof available).

For BJP, it is a historic win; there is no doubt about it. At the same time they must keep in mind that there were a large number of factors behind their win. Besides the BJP's slogan of change, the strong-current of anti-incumbency factor, ill-governance of almost half of the last decade, huge corruption in almost all fields, lack of proper planning and publicity in the election, pride, ego and worthlessness of some of its key leaders and associates, scarcity of dynamic leaders in the core-team are some of the major factors which resulted the downfall of the Congress.

Therefore, now it's an acid test for BJP-led Government in the state. People have chosen them to power to get a good, active and clean government so that the state prosper in the right direction. The young generation, in particular, has great expectation from the new government in respect of employment avenues, entrepreneurship, educational reform, and technology development. Moreover, people from all walks of life have limitless expectations from the government. If the new CM Sarbananda Sonowal fails to realize their wishes and needs, he must be ready to face the music in the long run.

However, it is the dawn of the new beginning only. That is why, out of ecstasy, some of the new representatives of people have tried to impress people or may be to get media attention with their unusual unique actions.

For example, one came to the Assembly by bicycle, one came to the house wearing the dress of a bride on the hot sunny day, other organized a huge feast to feed his supporters with vast expenses, the CM visited Dibrugarh by Rajdhani Express train with high officials and his security team to save money (!), the forest minister visited Kaziranga by ASTC bus (!), and so on and so forth.

In this respect it is to be remembered that now all the eyes are on the new representatives. A single action or act, a small word- written or spoken is enough to destroy their hard-earned image and reputation. Being dignified representatives of people, they should speak carefully and act responsibly. Prior going for an action, it is better if they judge various implications and ramifications of it.

For the above examples, there seems to be no justified and logical explanations available for their actions. Now, it is no time to stand and stare, no time to show generosity by illogical actions. Rather, act benevolently and show your competence and eagerness to serve people.

Needless to mention that Assam has to be firm and self-sufficient and its economy must be made stronger and all the resources of the state must be utilized well. Besides natural resources and alternate energy and other sources, more value must be given to the development of its human resources in terms of value education, ethics, history, capacity building, skill development, entrepreneurships, sports, scientific developments etc.

Mr Sonowal must ensure basic livelihood facilities to each and every Assamese first. Then, the till uncompleted Highway Projects and the Railway Lines along with the bridges, like Bogibeel, all across the state for better transport must be completed. This will help in industry, market growth, entrepreneurship and all.

The people of North East have been seen with a blind eye by the Centre since long. Although there are lots of Natural Resources like oil, coal, tea, bamboo, rivers and mountains, flora and fauna and the Mighty Brahmaputra, the benefits of these resources have not been realized by the people of this region. It is because, the royalty the state or the people getting from any industry or business out of the resources, are very low.

The North East has been exploited in many fields by some quarters. The people of this region hope that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give special interest to this region and help to make it self-sufficient in all spheres of life. It is hoped that Mr Sonowal will be able to convince the Centre about the urgency of solving the burning problems of the state viz. Flood and Erosion, Bangladeshi Infiltration, Price Rise and Inflation, etc.

The rampant destruction and exploitation of forests, nature, and poaching of wildlife like Rhino must be stopped. Assam can be developed into a tourist's paradise. The new government in the State should give emphasis to this sector. For, energy security, too, this Government must take some bold steps and proceed with the incomplete power projects in the region.

Expectations are very high that this government will bring the much-needed work-culture in the various state offices. For it, there must be reform in the service guidelines and strict vigil on the day-to-day activities of the employees of the State government. If works are to be done in a rapid pace and files are to be moved without bribes, the Government will have to adopt corporate culture and to take measures like consideration of Daily Progress Reports (DPR) and to send non-productive employees for compulsory retirement schemes. To get results, a little bit of strictness will be rewarding.

Last but not the least, if you have a will to do, doors will be opened, and obstacles will be removed automatically. Proper utilization of human resources, use of latest technology and innovative ideas, introduction of value education etc are some of the areas through which the state can see a sea of change in the time to come.
