MS Dhoni and team Jharkhand narrowly escape after fire breaks out at Delhi hotel
A fire broke out in ITC Welcome Hotel in Dwarka on Friday morning where former Indian skipper MS Dhoni and his Jharkhand cricket team were staying.

Dhoni and his team are in Delhi for playing the semis against Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The team, which was staying at the 7th floor of the hotel, had a close shave due to the fire. The semi-final match that was scheduled between Jharkhand and Bengal on Friday has since been canceled. This match will now be played on Saturday instead.

Amid security concerns, the venue for the semifinal match has also been shifted to Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi to be played on March 18. Due to the postponement of the semi-final match, the final match has also been postponed. The final will now be played at the Kotla stadium on March 20th.

The team was brought to the Air Force Cricket Ground in Palam, the original venue for the match. They will be heading back to the hotel once they receive clearance from the hotel management.

"We were supposed to meet at 7:30 am but at 7 O'Clock we got instructions from the hotel staff to stay back in the room as a fire had broken out in the shopping complex. Initially, we assumed that it was a small accident before the smoke started becoming dense," the Indian Express quoted Virat Singh.

"To avoid any complication the team was brought to the ground. Once they (Jharkhand) are done with the formalities they will be shifting to another hotel nearby Kotla Stadium," IE quoted anti-corruption officer Manoj Chaudhary.

"A call was received around 6.30 am about a fire breaking out at Welcome Hotel. Thirty fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was doused by 9.45 am. Cooling operations are on," NDTV Sports quoted a senior official from Delhi Fire Services.

According to TV reports the fire first broke out at the mall located next to the hotel. The fire which broke out at around 5.30 am also led to burning of the team's cricketing gear, as per reports.
