At the same time he was also disparaged that he can do well in Indian pitches because it is rather slow but he will not be a success in foreign pitches especially in test matches. Apart from these allegations, critics tried to brand him as a one-day specialist. Even Indian selectors were hesitant to select him for test-matches, for they believed that he might be a loser. But ‘Mahi’ cleared the doubts of all with his bat. He used the formula of defense and batting like Rahul Dravid, the fence of India, and that helps him to stay in the crease for long hours. He pays attention towards not losing his wicket for no reason and he also concentrates on selecting good balls from bad balls.
 
Dhoni has the ability of snatching victory from the opponent team under critical situations. He also has the capacity of changing the direction of the game. He has the honour of heading the team at the early stages of his career. The credit goes to his aptitude of coping with situations and his efficiency in batting according to the circumstances of the game.

 
Verbal attacks were also made against him as few doubted his capacity in handling the responsible position of captain. Several felt that he would not be able to shine in the new role of captaincy. Instead it would affect his batting; as the burden of captaincy affected the batting potential of master batsman Sachin Tendulkar. But soon Dhoni proved his calibre. Team India began tying up the team together for he believed in unity, and that became the success mantra of the new Indian team. He bravely faced each and every situation. Team India bagged almost all the trophies, and world champion Australia had to accept defeat from the Indian team.
 
Now, we can’t imagine a team without this great cricketer. He is the nucleus of the team.
