MTV apologizes for Ravi Shankar's tribute with wrong picture
The idiot box just upped it's 'idiot' score with the latest tribute that MTV paid to Pandit Ravi Shankar, who recently died at the age of 92 after a brilliant career as a globally renowned musician and sitar virtuoso. In an article on its site, MTV put up a picture of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar instead of Pandit Ravi Shankar. The music channel has now publicly apologized.
IT'S ALL the more shocking because the easiest way to find a 'picture' of Pandit Ravi Shankar is to
google it. On the other hand, it's not all that shocking because a lot of the music knowledge that today's generation gets is 'fortunately' from the intelligent stuff put up by the MTV crew on its channel.
It's not shocking because MTV is a music channel and Pandit Ravi Shankar is 'just' a sitar maestro. One is only thankful that they did not go one step ahead in calling him a violin maestro! After all, what's the difference between a sitar and a violin if you can't spot the difference between Pandit Ravi Shankar and Shri Shri Ravi Shankar??
MTV went on like it was no one's business, showing pictures of Shri Shri Ravi Shankar while the article was about another person - Pandit Ravi Shankar.
Readers have uleashed their fury on MTV for not checking a story before uploading it with the wrong picture. Ramesh Srivats tweeted, "Oho. Pandit Ravi Shankar dies. And MTV puts up the photo of a person whose whole funda is Art of Living."
Meanwhile, MTV's India arm has made a formal apology - "We apologise on behalf of @MTV for putting up the wrong picture of Pandit Ravi Shankar! We have informed our International Content Team."
