MTV Video Music Award 2011, dominated by Beyonce and her 'surprise'
Although Beyonce did not win any award and danced one dance, she was the centre of all the media attention due to her 'surprise.' The 29- year-old pop singer is about to be a mom.

THE MTV Video Music Award of the year 2011 was meticulously planned with Lady Gaga starting the show in her own way followed by some awards given to the achievers of the year. However, Beyonce stole the show on the red carpet when she almost said that she was pregnant.

Although she did not say anything other than pat her small baby bump, she did address the press with the words, “I have a surprise for you,” yet it was quite evident what she was hinting at. Katy Perry emerged as the winner of the night as she won the biggest honour, Video of the Year award for her "Firework."

That was not all as Katy Perry won a second trophy for her video with Kanye West for E.T. While accepting the award, Perry joked about West infamous intrusion of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech two years ago by saying, “Now this is the time when you wanna interrupt me Kanye.” West, however, remained smiling and in his turn thanked, “Katy Perry for being so brave for letting me on her record.”

Although Katy Perry made her mark by grabbing the highest honour of the day but it was Adele who’s 'Rolling in the Deep', got trophies for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing and it became the favourite album of the evening. In spite of all the technical awards, Adele lost to Lady Gaga’s ‘Born this way’ for the Best Female Video.

Britney Spears won the night’s first award for being the best pop video, and later was honoured with an MTV Video Vanguard award for her visual legacy. Lady Gaga also said what a inspiration Britney had been for her generation. She said, “She’s a pop music legend, and the industry would not be the same without her.” In her usual weird yet creative way, this time, Lady Gaga chose to open the MTV Video and Music awards dressed as her alter ego, who she called Jo Calderone. Jo gave a monologue to the audience about what Lady Gaga really was and performed ‘Love on Top.’

Other performers of the evening was Beyonce who was in a tux and after her song was over she again flashed her belly for the camera and the father to be, Jay-Z looked pleased and hooted for his wife from the audience. The British singer, Adele took the audience to another zone with her ‘Someone Like You’ and Jay-Z and Kanye West did a surprise number of "Otis," from their album "Watch the Throne."

There was also a tribute to Amy Winehouse by Russell Brand, Tony Bennett and Bruno Mars who performed the singer's hit "Valerie." It was again a night of power pact performance and lots and lots of good energy, thank you speeches and flowing champagne.
