MINISTER FOR Forests and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad today said that Prestigious Mughal Road project is expected to be thrown open for vehicular traffic this fiscal, adding the execution of the project is apace on both sides.
Inspecting the inter regional road link from Shopian side today, the Minister said the trade between Kashmir Valley and Jammu would get a new fillip on completion of the road, which will have positive impact on the socio- economic conditions of the people especially those living in Shopian, Rajouri and Poonch.While reviewing the progress on Markhor Recovery Project, the Minister said that at Hirpora Wild Life Sanctuary the construction work of the administrative block and concrete work for the entry gate has been completed at a cost of Rs 10.30 lakh.
The Minister further said that the fencing of Chain-link-Fencing at the said project is being carried out as per the standing recommendation of the Central Empowerment Committee of the Supreme Court. An amount of Rs 2.90 crore would be incurred on procuring the material to be used for the construction purpose, he added.The Minister appreciated the Forest Division, Shopian for removing encroachment on forest land over 110.25 hectares on which now fencing has been raised over 17600 rfts. He said the drive against encroachments will continue along with fight against timber smugglers till the practices stop fully.Altaf expressed dismay over the shortfall of timber supply to Shopian consumers during last year. He directed for supplying full quota of timber to the consumers of Shopian district during the current fiscal. The Department has issued 88,546 cft timber to 2,282 consumers for construction in Shopian target despite unrest during last fiscal.
