EXPULSION OF former Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was revoked by party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday. Khan was expelled from the party after Lok Sabha polls last year.
Khan, who formerly served as the general secretary of the party was counted as a close confidante of Mulayam Singh Yadav before his exit. Being a noticeable Muslim face in the party, he was expelled after he raised his voice against the leadership of Amar Singh and his stranglehold on the party. He was also opposed to the inclusion of former BJP leader and UP chief minister Kalyan Singh into Samajwadi fold.
As the news circulated within the party of Yadav withdrawing the suspension of Khan, there was general relief all around. A party source said that SP National General Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav has written a letter to Khan informing him about Mulayam Yadav’s decision to revoke his suspension.In the letter, which was addressed to Khan, Ram Gopal Yadav said that the party was extremely happy to inform him that SP national president Mulayam Singh Yadav has revoked his expulsion from the party and has asked to join the party at the earliest possible and resume with his responsibilities.A spokesperson from the party said that Mulayam Singh Yadav expressed hope that his (Khan's) association with Samajwadi party would make the organisation stronger in the state.
