Mumbai cyclone and weather : Latest news and updates
The IMD, said that the cyclone with winds upto 75 kms per hour will hit the Indian States of Southern Gujarat, Northern Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. It is believed that the system will intensify further and move north northeastwards.
INDIAN CITIES like Mumbai and parts of Goa and Konkan region have reported heavy rainfalls. The current weather forecast is that the tropical cyclone has strengthened over the Arabian Sea off the western coast. The cyclone will hit Mumbai on Thursday morning (November 12), at around 5:30 am. The cyclone named Phyan was around 250 km west of Goa at around 2:30 am on Thursday morning. Orange elert, which is a step below the red alert has been issued.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), said that the cyclone with winds upto 75 kms per hour will hit the Indian States of Southern Gujarat, Northern Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. The Cyclone which is still 400 kms away from the Goa's coast is moving at a very fast speed and will pose a greater threat to the western coast. Phyan cyclone was 420 km south - wouthwest of Mumbai and was 670 kms south southwest of Gujarat's Surat.

It is believed that the system will intensify further and move north northeastwards and cross South Gujarat and North Maharashtra coast between Mahuva and Dahanu by early hours of November 12.

Fishermen have been asked to to avoid venturing into sea till Thursday. Coast guard officials have said that the sea conditions would be very rough, will waves rising upto 5 to 10 metres. Around 300 fishermen have been reported missing from the Daman coast.
 
Afternoon sessions in schools in Maharashtra have been cancelled.
 
Mahratra CM said that extra buses and trains would run.

The cyclone in India will lead to heavy and torrential rainfall at most places durnig the next 36 hours over Konkan and Goa along with Maharashtra.

Haavy rain at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls is likely to commence over South Gujarat from Wednesday afternoon.
