Mumbai-Goa highway bridge collapse: 22 people missing, rescue operations underway
A decade old bridge on the Mumbai-Goa highway near Mahad in Raigad district collapsed on Wednesday due to heavy rains. Reportedly, over 22 people are missing after the incident. Two buses and a few private vehicles are also feared to be washed away due to the bridge collapse.

After speaking to the authorities concerned, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to Twitter to explain what has really happened.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Maharashtra Chief Minister to know about the incident and assured all help in rescue and relief operation.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu also offered all possible help in the rescue operation.

Around 80 rescuers and divers have been sent to the spot. Two NDRF teams from Pune are on their way. Locals are also helping the rescue team. A Chetak helicopter of Indian Coast Guard has also been deployed in the search operation.

As per the recent reports the traffic has been diverted to the new parallel bridge. Officials are trying determine the total number of missing vehicles. For five days, there has been incessant rains in parts of coastal Konkan, northern and western Maharashtra.
