Mumbai Indians lifted aloft the 2013 Champions League T20 title after defeating Rajasthan Royals in the finals at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi, yesterday night. With this Mumbai Indians have completed a double by winning both the Indian Premier League and the Champions League T20 in the same season, a rare feat.
All the Mumbai batsmen contributed in their team scores, with Smith being the highest scorer – 44 runs, and other players also chipped in with a handy 20 and 30 runs in quick time. Maxwell needs a special mention here as he played an important knock in the end scoring 37 runs of 14 balls.
As far as the Rajsthan bowlers were concerned, none apart from Tambe could stem the run flow, else rest of the bowlers went for more than 10 runs per over. The pressure of the finals seems to have got to these players.
But, the spirited display of the Royals batsmen in the early overs of the game reflected that they are going to fight till the end. In fact, one point of time, the score read 1 wicket for 110 runs and Samson and Rahane were going all guns blazing. They were the highest run scorers for Royals, where Samson and Rahane scored 65 and 60 runs respectively.
After the partnership between the two broke, the rest of the batsmen could not cope with Harbhajan's aggressive bowling, where he took four wickets in the match. Harbhajan Singh was also awarded the Man of the Match for his splendid bowling, which turned the course of the game. It was a double delight for Mumbai Indians as it was their opener, DR Smith who also walked away with the Man of the Series award.
