Mumbaikars are all set to ride in Monorail, which got started on 26th January 2010. Monorail has become talk of the cities as it is the second best comforting train after Metro. Monorail is a short train which moves on a single track and can go in busy and congested areas and streets. One can say it is a republic day gift to Mumbaikars by the government. Firstly it is to be launched in Delhi, but the project is put on a hold for the time. Now, rather than traveling in suffocated and overloaded local trains Mumbai people can travel in the Monorail which is way more comforting and air conditioned as well.
As far as the comparison is concerned between Mumbai Monorail and Delhi Metro, there is no comparison. The Monorail is a short train as compared to Metro train. Metro rail services has the capacity to take thousands of people in one go and on average basis lakhs of people commute via Metro daily. Whereas, Monorail has the capacity to take not more than seven hundred people at one go. But Monorail has got the advantage of being short; it occupies less space, moves on a single track and can go in busy and overcrowded areas which Metro train cannot. If we talk about speed of Monorail then it can cover the distance of eighty kilometers per hour and an average speed is sixty five kilometers per hour. Whereas it is different in the case of Metro it moves at comparatively greater speed than Monorail. Metro covers lot of places and covers greater distances; even Metro is about to start to go out of Delhi by the end of July 2010, while Monorail covers only a few places as of now. Delhi Metro was started on October 1, 1998, and over the years it has seen lot of developments and improvements. Same is the case with Monorail, as the years will pass Monorail will start covering more places and greater distances. We delhiites are just waiting for the Monorail to start in Delhi.
