Mumbai, not Australia, should be the priority!
Before mulling over the racial attacks in Australia the media channels should take note of the more horrendous things going on in Mumbai.
IT IS simplistic on part of the India media to create such an unasked for frenzy over the racial attacks in Australia, an alien land, but saying little about the atrocities being inflicted upon the north Indians in Mumbai, within their own nation! These so called, self declared journalism tycoons of the idiot box have spent hundreds of hours of their news-channel’s prime time to discuss Australia. I have no doubt in my minds that the situation in Australia warranted immediate and stern government action at diplomatic levels. But at the same time I am very much convinced that the situation in our own country i.e., Mumbai is much worse than Australia.
It is for the people to decide. What is more shocking? An Indian being abused and thrashed in Australia or an Indian being abused, looted and thrashed by a fellow Indian! The government won’t act on its own since it does not have a mind of its own. It has remained a mute spectator in both the cases. Although the idiotic and noisy discussions in the idiot box forced the government to finally issue a cautionary advisory, it has done nothing to deal with the more horrific and perilous issue of our own land.
To be very sincere, I never expect any thing from the government since I understand their dilemma of vote-bank considerations. They can’t act in Mumbai’s case simply because none of the political party is sure of the outcome of votes by indulging in the ‘Marathi-manoos’ issue. But I am still to find out, as to why these news channels, which so belligerently stood up for our people’s cause in Australia, did not bother to stand for the north Indians’ plight in Mumbai? The only reason I can guess is that either all these channels are run by Maharastrians or all of these channels fear the Thakerays, junior and senior. The other reason could be that these media houses also believe in – “Mumbai is for Marathi manoos”
How can our government, journalists, social pundits etc ask the Australian government to check those goons when they can’t contain the attacks on linguistic basis in their own country? When it comes to an alien land, I can understand government’s helplessness and appreciate that they have resorted to their only option of issuing an advisory. But here, within India they have thousands of options. Why are they submissive to our in-house issue? In case they are not capable of stopping these bunch of Thakerays, they should issue an advisory or for the matter make laws preventing north Indians from going to Mumbai.
