Mumbai sways to melodious Babla Mehta
A musical tribute was paid to Manoj Kumar (aka 'the film architect') and the late Mukesh (aka 'the playback legend') on their birth anniversaries, by the Indian Institute of Architects on Sunday, July 19 at Rang Sharda, Bandra
A MUSICAL tribute was paid to Manoj Kumar (aka ‘the film architect’) and the late Mukesh (aka ‘the playback legend’) on their birth anniversaries, by the Indian Institute of Architects on Sunday, July 19 at Rang Sharda, Bandra. Vinay Parelkar, IIA President, welcomed the august audience assembled for the great evening. He spoke of the values of IIA and the purpose of the show: A blend of science and art common to both architecture and music. Vijay Garg welcomed and felicitated the chief guest, Sameer Anjaan. He presented a bouquet and memento and thanked him for gracing the occasion.

Shying away from his usual demure of only singing on stage, Babla Mehta brought about a whole change in his persona and set the night on fire. From driving away the blues to raising the crescendo to an absolute high, he infused excitement for the audiences with panache. The man simply stole the show. Right from performing like a true-blue artist-cum-entertainer to being instrumental in making the audience laugh, clap and also sing. So enticed were the audience that they literally stood on their feet to celebrate the good times.

The chief guest of the evening was lyricist Sameer Anjaan. Incidentally, singer Mukesh was instrumental in giving us Anjaan, the great lyricist and Sameer’s father. Babla Mehta has also sung songs written by Sameer. The versatile RJ Anuraag Pandey amused the audiences with his trademark punch lines and trivia about ‘Bollywood’ by comparing the show. Dressed in cowboy attire and sleek shoes RJ Anuraag Pandey entertained the audiences. He brought the house down with his Pande-mania. His histrionics, suffice, to say, had everyone laughing in their seats. And yes, there was this beautiful and charming co-compere, Yasmeen. Elegantly dressed for the evening, she looked anything but divine in that outfit.

The show was also attended by actor Anjan Srivastava and ex-sherrii of Mumbai Dr Jagannathrao Hegde. Actor Anjan Srivastava said tThe show was sponsored by Kohler and co-sponsored by Bajaj luminaries and Wadbros. The entrance to the hall wore a tinge of assorted decorations.

And true to IIA’s ideology set back as early as in the late 1910s, the institute continue to promote the profession of architecture by organising and uniting in fellowship the architects of India as was evident on Sunday where IIA paid a musical tribute to commemorate the birth anniversaries of singer Mukesh and actor Manoj Kumar. The show not only reiterated IIA’s fellowship of architects but organised the event keeping for the purpose of art and science, a medium so akin to architecture as well as music. How apt therefore that one art pays tribute to another art.
