Mumbai to host national conclave on specific learning disability
Mumbai is going to host a three-day National Conclave on Specific Learning Disability (SLD) on October 26 to 28 with a focus on Dyslexia. The conclave will provide a spotlight on Screening for SLD; Using Assistive Technology for Teaching and Learning; Diagnostics; Remediation; and Provisions for SLD in the recent Rights of Persons with Disability Act.

Being organised by the Maharashtra Dyslexia Association, the conclave will deliberate on the education and rights of students with dyslexia and related reading disorders. Accordingly, the conclave will be focussing on invited talks, workshops and short trainings to provide a better understanding of this common SLD challenge which is often misunderstood condition and promote best practice in the field through its service centres and training programmes.

The conclave promises high-quality workshops and training programmes that promote scientific and evidence-based teaching practices.

According to the organizers of the workshop, the training workshops will provide teachers, planning to use the screening tool, with an understanding of the condition and the tool. It demystifies Dyslexia and its associated disorders. Basic knowledge pertaining to academic and behavioural manifestations will equip the teachers to be more effective in the classroom and create an environment conducive to learning.

For example one of the  training workshop will cover Learning in a Classroom – All learn at a different pace; Learning Disabilities – Meaning and types; Dyslexia – Symptoms and classroom manifestations including academic and behavioural ramifications; Associated disorders – Other types of Learning Disabilities, AD/HD; Introduction of the screening tool – Scope and usage; Practical Experience – Case study and scoring the screening tool.

It is said that the Participants undergoing training workshops will receive a Certificate from NBRC authorising them to administer the DALI Screening Tool.
