Muslim inmate in Tihar Jail branded with 'Om' symbol
The court has asked the prison officials to pay special attention to Nabbir's safety and ordered that a stern action be taken against jail superintendent Rajesh Chauhan, if he is found guilty after the investigation.

A convicted prisoner lodged in the Tihar Jail has complained to a Delhi court that he was compelled to get 'OM' engraved on his back inside the jail. The prisoner named Nabbir has alleged that it was done forcefully by the jail superintendent. The superintendent forced the mark of 'OM' on his back. The victim has alleged that he is a Muslim, so he has been tortured. On his back, a hot metal was used forcefully to engrave 'OM'.

According to the report of Indian Express, Nabbir told Metropolitan Magistrate Richa Parihar that the superintendent refused to give him food for two days in the name of Navratri. He also warned him that he would get him converted to Hinduism.

Nabbir's lawyer Jagmohan Singh filed an application on April 17 at the Karkardooma Court, after which these things surfaced, a day later. Nabbir was arrested in the year 2016 under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime (MCOCA) and Arms Act and also was kept in the high risk ward in jail number 4.

After verifying the complaint, Metropolitan Magistrate Richa told Tihar officer that the charges imposed by the prisoner are serious and it needed to intervene immediately. For this, a notice was also issued to DGP Jail, Headquarters, Tihar Jail No. 4, New Delhi. An immediate medical examination of the prisoner has been ordered. The necessary CCTV footage has been submitted and the statements of other prisoners have been recorded.

The court has asked the prison officials to pay special attention to Nabbir's safety and ordered that a stern action be taken against jail superintendent Rajesh Chauhan, if he is found guilty after the investigation.
