Muslims asked not to sing Vande Matram
In a surprising move, Jamait-e-Ulema Hind has asked the Muslims to refrain from singing Vande Matram as it was against the tenets of Islam. JEU issued a fatwa against the national song as certain lines of it went against Islam.

JAMAIT-E-ULEMA HIND or the JEU on Tuesday issued a Fatwa stating that singing 'Vande Matram' the national song of India was against the tenets of Islam. JEU passed a resolution asking Muslims not to sing the Vande Matram as it went against the Islamic religious principles.

The resolution was passed at the National Convention meet of JEU at Deoband and it asks the community members to refrain from singing the national song as some of its lines went against Islam.

Interestingly, Union Home Minister P Chdiambaram is scheduled to address a Jamait-e-Ulema Hind conference in Deoband today. It is unlikely that the home minister would take up the issue of fatwa against the national song but this decision of JEU is likely to raise the hackles of civil society across the country.

Muslim academics also support the fatwa saying that as per the Islam they can not offer prayers to anyone except Allah. However, some of the Muslim intellectuals were of the opinion that to sing or not to sing Vande matram was an issue of personal faith and issuing fatwas lead to publicity of issues that can be avoided.

Singing of Vande Mataram in any form should be prohib ited. It is not as per constitution. It is merely a song. Not much importance is attached. All Muslims must condemn this. This is anti Muslim. Shapath should also be taken in Urdu and not Hindi

Vande Matram contains some lines which declare the soil of motherland a deity. This is against basic tenets of Islam. Even worshipping one's mother or Prophet is not allowed for Muslims. Hence, demanding Muslims to sing it is, in fact, demanding them to convert to non-Islam, which is a very dangerous demand. Not singing Vande Matram does not mean not loving the motherland in the same manner as Muslims do not worship their actual mothers and their Prophet but they love them.Muslims have always proved their patriotism and sacrificed their lives in thousands for the country. Expression of love for one's motherland does not lie only in singing it. There are many ways to express it. Can we say that Chattopadhyay remained unpatriotic to the country before his composition of this poem in 1875? Can we say that all nationalists before 1875 were unpatriotic because they never sang it? Can Muslims be justified in demanding all Indians to be buried in the soil of the motherland in spite of being burnt after death? The answer is NO.Then why are they being demanded to sing it while it is they who composed the famous song "Sare Jahan Se Achcha …"and sing it
