Muslims backstabbed in the name of Telangana: Civil Liberties
TRS and Telangana political JAC has always used Muslims but in a way we can say that they have back-stabbed Muslims in the name of Telangana. They want Muslim faces and votes but they do not want Muslim representation, as was evident during Mahboobnagar by-election where they didn't even support the Muslim candidate. Muslims, time and again proved their secular credentials but these parties have always shown a soft corner towards Hindutva ideology.

CIVIL LIBERTIES Monitoring Committee General Secretary Lateef Mohammed Khan demanded the resignation of TRS President K Chadnrasekhar Rao from Mahboobnagar Parliamentary constituency, owing responsibility to defeat of its candidate from the Assembly by-polls, in which BJP candidate was declared winner on Wednesday.

In a statement, he condemned the attitude of Telangana political JAC led by Kodandaram Reddy as well as TRS party Chief K.Chandrasekhar Rao in the matter of by-elections at Mahboobnagar. He said it is a matter of deep concern that a single Muslim who contested strongly in the elections was not supported enough by the so called secular leaders.

He lamented that this election reflects the soft corner of K.Chandrasekhar Rao of TRS and Kodandaram Reddy of JAC towards Hindutva ideology. Muslims have been continuously supporting Telangana even after criticism and accusations such as Razakars, anti-telanganites etc. But the so called secular leaders of Telangana could not support a Muslim even once. Instead they can use Muslims for their political benefits as the Congress has always used Muslims as vote bank during elections at national level.

He alleged that TRS and Telangana political JAC has always used Muslims but in a way we can say that they have backstabbed Muslims in the name of Telangana. They want Muslim faces, Muslim votes but they do not want Muslim representation. Here, he said that they want to remind everyone that during the by-elections at Nizamabad in the year 2010, Muslims with a big heart supported a BJP candidate only for the sake of Telangana, and now here in Mahboobnagar, the non-Muslims could not make their heart such wide as Muslims did. Thus they have failed to be secular in practical manner.

Therefore, here he said that the question would be when Muslims have to again and again prove that they are secular, then why does the same principle not apply to non-Muslims? In fact Nizamabad elections proved that Muslims are the real secularists by nature, he added.

According to him, the real factors behind the defeat of a Muslim candidate at Mahboobnagar are that KCR did not spare enough time for campaign and Reddy representing TJAC did not support TRS candidate who is a Muslim, because, the BJP candidate who was contesting belongs to Reddy community. He lamented that KCR and Kodandram Reddy did not dare to oppose that Reddy.

In fact, he said KCR and Kodandram Reddy behaved in the same manner as two sides of a coin. KCR had said before elections that his candidate at Mahboobnagar has already won the elections and needed official recognition, so now does he have right to celebrate the victory of elections? He should feel ashamed and take the responsibility of the defeat of his party candidate at Mahboobnagar. But he is celebrating shamelessly because he had filed a Muslim candidate from Mahboobnagar for namesake. In the same manner Kodandram Reddy should also feel ashamed for stating that it is a peoples’ victory. Not only these leaders but all the peoples’ organizations, JACs and Forums should feel ashamed and regret the defeat of a Muslim candidate and take the responsibility of his defeat at Mahboobnagar.

Now, Khan felt that it is the high time for Muslims to become politically aware, ‘do not believe the oral wordings of leaders, recognize their real faces because there are masks over masks on their faces, which are now exposed’. The Telangana movement is no more a peoples’ movement. The aspirations of Telangana people have died. Every so called secular leader is in race of Telangana for their personal benefits. Politicians, leaders, commentators etc expect Muslims to be secular and prove their secularism time to time but they themselves can remain communal and spread the same, which we have seen as an example in the Mahboobnagar by-elections. These are not only their double standards but a face with several layers of different kinds of masks.

He said they want to clear that Telangana failed in the litmus test for secularism that has been proved in the Mahboobnagar by-elections. Thus, the fate of Telangana movement is clear before us, and the movement has moved many years back because of the shaken confidence of Muslims in the movement. If KCR has even little self-respect, he demanded that he should immediately resign from his parliamentary seat of Mahboobnagar and not only field a Muslim candidate from there but also get him elected, then only Muslims’ confidence in the movement can be restored. Otherwise, he warned that his name will be written in black letters in the history like his predecessors.
