Name law and schemes after brave girl: Issue stamp and honour with Ashok Chakra

Now, when the family members of the gang-rape victim have desired their brave daughter to be honoured in the larger public good, the Union government should accept the demand from all sections of the society as also echoed by Union Minister Shashi Tharoor to reveal the identity of the brave gang-rape victim - honouring her by naming the planned new anti-rape law after her.

ALSO ROADS, flyovers and institutions should be named after her to give women of this country a moral and practical support to live with dignity in a society where even some law-makers are known for their dirty male-psyche.

A commemorative stamp should be issued in honour of the gang-rape victim on January 26 when she should also be honoured posthumously with the country’s highest civilian award for bravery Ashok Chakra.

Hiding the identity of a living rape-victim does have a sense for a normal life of the victim after bearing the heinous crime. Law should be modified so that identity and photo of brave gang-rape victim - having taught a fitting lesson to our deaf and dumb decision-takers and law-enforcing agencies of this nation - may be revealed.

It will make the brave girl to be worshipped as an ideal for youngsters of this country who faced the worst of the merciless police brutality through water-cannons and lathi-charge in chilly winter of the rape capital of India - only for their sin of seeking justice against crime against women.

Authorities shamefully snatched constitutional right of people for a meaningful protest by closing Metro stations and making India Gate out-of-bounds for expressing their solidarity with the departed soul. Union government has acted against wishes of people by managing a high-profile cremation of the brave girl in early morning hours without giving people a chance to pay homage.

If bodies of political leaders can be kept for ‘darshan’ for long and ‘samadhis’ created against norms set by Union Cabinet, then it was the fittest case for cremation with full state-honour and a memorial created at the cremation-site.
