Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi felicitated iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar at Mumbai's Mahalaxmi Racecourse, on the 51st anniversary of the famous song, 'Ae mere watan ke logon'. The felicitation was part of 'Shreshta Bharat Divas' celebrations. Many celebrities and national figures along with more than one lakh people were present in the function.
The song, which is said to have made India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru cry, was sung exactly 51 years ago on January 27, 1963. People present in the function sang the song along with Lata Mangeshkar in the venue. The patriotic song was written by Kavi Pradeep.
During the event, the singer also praised Narendra Modi and said she wants to see him become the Indian Prime Minister. This comment might have helped NaMo some more brownie points, just before the upcoming elections. This is the second time, that Lata Mangeshkar has shared the dias with the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, reported nnis.
Modi talked about the song and said, that the song has found a place in the hearts and minds of millions of Indians. Modi in his speech also, stressed on India's defence policies, saying, that India is the only country that doesn't have a war memorial. He also confirmed that he will be making one, if he becomes a Prime Minister. He appreciated the soldiers for the rescue operation at Uttarakhand.
