Naomi Campbell ordered to appear before International Court in Blood Diamond case
Special Court for Sierra Leon issued an order on Thursday forcing the model to testify in the war crime trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor. If she refuses to testify she could be jailed up to seven years and a fine of 2 million Sierra Leon
SUPERMODEL NAOMI blood diamond case is getting complicated day by day. Special Court for Sierra Leon issued an order on Thursday forcing the model to testify in the war crime trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor.

Campbell avoided prosecutors for a year saying she had no wish to be part of the case. If she refuses to testify she could be jailed up to seven years and a fine of 2 million Sierra Leon leones or about $ 510. International Court ordered her to appear in court in The Hague on July 29 at 9 am.

In a landmark case, the appearance of Naomi Campbell and actress Mia Farrow will add a touch of glitz.

The twist in the case is that Liberian President said in his statement that he never possessed rough diamonds but Naomi Campbell said that Taylor had given her a rough diamond as a gift during a 1997 reception in South Africa.

So it is very important for prosecutors to get the testimony of supermodel that would support their contention that Taylor lied.

Taylor is accused of supporting rebels in Sierra Leone's 1991-2002 civil war, which claimed an estimated 500,000 victims of killings, systematic mutilation or other atrocities.

In lieu of that support Taylor plundered Sierra Leon’s timber and mineral wealth, including gems that became known as "blood" diamonds.
