Narendra Modi asserts he would do all that he could for the country
BJP?s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi here today said that he would do all that he could for the country, would not do anything with an ulterior motive and would never do ?anything for myself?.

Modi was addressing journalists after the formal release of the BJP manifesto by LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Rajnath Singh and  Sushma Swaraj.

A composed Modi?s opening remarks were an indirect comment on the UPA government?s culture self-aggrandizement and grabbing of country?s resources by its leaders.

He said manifesto was neither a ritual nor a mere document. ?This is a commitment with two fundamental aspects ? good governance and development. The development would be sarvarsparshi ? touch everybody, sarvadeshi ? countrywide and sarvapriya ?popular?.

The good governance, according to him, was about amelioration of the poor, dalit, shoshit (exploited) and minorities. ?The government should be of great help and access to them. They cannot go anywhere but look to the government and the government has to be responsive. That is what antyodaya of Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya is. That is the dream the BJP is having?.

India, he said, need a government capable to meet its security needs. A strong government in Delhi was a necessity. Nobody should dictate us terms. But everybody should be keen on looking towards us. ?We too need not dicate but have friendly relations with all?.

The country during the last ten years had gone through a phase of severe depression. The BJP government would bring the smiles back on the faces of 125 crore people. ?We would complete the task in 60 months. A system of work culture would be established?

NDA chairman and BJP?s patriarch LK Advani praised the presentation of the manifesto and campaign strategies as a never-before event since 1952, when ?I saw the first manifesto being launched. I am sure 21st century would be the century of Bharat and the foundation would be laid in the next five years?.

He was all praise for the campaign strategies. Dr Joshi had presented an-all encompassing manifesto, he said. ?This gives me immense pleasure?.

Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj said the country faced severe challenges due to policy paralysis. The industry and trade was gasping, ministers and bureaucrats were non-functional and the country had come to a standstill. ?We would bring the back no sooner we come to power. It will be ?national marathon? which would be joined by all the people from all classes and creed.

Congress objective was foreign direct investment ? a crutch they called development, Swaraj said. ?The BJP would depend on the immense resource this country have in its youth, women, farmers, working class, tribal people and minorities. We would achieve the goal of Shreshta Bharat ? India with excellence?. She said, ?Good times are coming?

Party president Rajnath Singh said that the manifesto was vow of the party. It would do much more than documented in it. He lamented that during the past over 60 years the party that ruled the country had never cared for its manifesto. ?Had it done so, it would not have led to the crisis of credibility, the country is facing today?. Growing economic disparity was a challenge.

Referring to Modi, he said never in electoral history of this country one person had created so much of ripple and had also been subject to severe assault to the extent of being almost made an ?untouchable?. By God?s grace he has come unscathed and today NDA was an alliance of 25 parties, including five in Tamilnadu. That was the wish of the country. It wanted to get rid of the Congress.
