Narendra Modi meets Gujarat's Yoga Championship winning team
Yoga is not a popular 'sporting' competition. But, when the International Yogasan Championship was held in Hong Kong recently, it was the Gujarat Yoga team that looked good in the competition - and won many medals. The team, after returning, straight away headed to the Gujarat capital and met Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who congratulated the team.
THE CHIEF Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, happily met the winning Gujarat Yoga team members who straight away headed over to the chief minister with the 45-kg 'Champion of Champions' trophy, which they had won at the International Yogasan Championship , which recently took place in Hong Kong.
The results of the championship is indicative of Gujarat's large number of yoga professionals who, by all accounts, are well-versed with all the technical aspects of Yoga. They also seem to have mastered it at the international level. The 10-member team, which was led by Harshad Solanki, secretary of the Gujarat Yog and Culture Association, performed well as a unit - winning 3 Gold medals along with some silver and bronze medals.
If ever Yoga is introduced as an Olympic sport, then the chances of winning an Olympic Gold medal would increase with Gujarat having world-class practitioners of Yoga.
Yoga, as is a well-known and an excellent way to keep the body and mind in shape and keep disease at bay. While followers of Yoga are present in every state in the country, the Narendra Modi-run Gujarat's Yoga team has trumped other states in Yoga know-how in the world championship.
With practitioners of Yoga present in almost all the countries of the world, the number of countries picking up Yoga will only increase. But one would expect Gujarat to keep producing Yoga professionals of the highest standard, and bring laurels to the nation.
