VEGETABLE MANDI Narwal, Jammu is reeling under the scarcity of power and water due to apathy of concerned authorities. In a hurriedly called meeting of Commission agents, Shri Ram Sena State President Rajiv lashed at the authorities for not providing amenities adequately to the area.
Mahajan said that business at Vegetable Mandi, Narwal starts at 3 AM daily and thousands of people work there to provide fresh vegetables to the people of whole Jammu and Kashmir state, but it is very unfortunate that Power department curtails power from 5 AM plunging the whole area into pitch darkness, putting the business community at hard risk of life and property.
He further said that there are only four high mast flood lights, out of which only two are functional. Mahajan criticized the PDD authorities for alleged power curtailment and that too at a prime time of business.
Mahajan termed the curtailment ‘unjustified and illegal’ as after installation of electronic meters, curtailment has no meaning.
He urged the PDD authorities to do away with the power curtailment in the area at prime of the business hours so that vegetable vendors do not suffer on this account and in fact they are paying power tariff regularly and that too according to electronic meter readings.
The water supply in the area is also not good. The area always faces shortage of drinking water. The water supply is too short to cope up with the needs of thousands of people engaged in vegetable business, said Mahajan. Mahajan also urged the PHE authorities to enhance water supply in the area.
Meanwhile, Mahajan threatened to launch agitation, if the authorities at the helm of affairs did not rectify their respective supplies to mitigate the sufferings of business community at Narwal Vegetable Mandi.
Mahajan also appealed to the chief minister, Omar Abdullah who is also holding the charge of power ministry to personally intervene in the matter so that vegetables dealers are relieved of the hardships faced by them.
Those who were present in the meeting included, Ajay Gupta, Rajinder Gupta, Bal Krishan Arora, Parul Gupta, Raghvir Krishan Gupta, Vijay Gupta, Pawan Choudhary, Anil Chopra and others.
