NASA's 2020 Mars rover will have 23 eyes; all for prying on the red planet!
With space technology growing day by day, NASA keeps getting better and better in equipping its satellites with latest cameras that can help capture the space and outer planets as clearly as possible.

As per latest report, NASA is planning to put up 23 cameras in its Mars 2020 rover. This will be a part of NASA's exploration mission. Of the twenty there cameras that the space agency is planning to use, nine will be enhanced engineering cameras, seven will be science cameras and the remaining seven will be descent imaging cameras.

While the purpose of having engineering cameras is to avoid hazards, crashes and to have a better aim at the targeted locations; the descent cameras are the ones that will be exclusively used for capturing entry, descent and landing operations of the rover. The science cameras on the other hand are the ones that will be used for collecting images of the material which will be later assessed by scientists to determine its content and see what it's made up of.

One of the marvelous additions is the SkyCam, a sky-facing camera which will capture images that will be used for studying the clouds and atmosphere of Mars.

Of the many cameras that will be used in the mission, the most exciting one seems to be Mastcam-Z. This camera has been designed to collect 3D images of the geology of the planet.

Many of the cameras atop Mars 2020 rover will have etch ability to capture high resolution, high definition and coloured images. Of the 23 cameras atop Mars 2020, many were used in Curiosity as well. Now compare this to the first rover that landed on Mars, the Pathfinder, which was equipped with just five such cameras.
