Nashik: Suspect who allegedly tried to rape a minor girl arrested
Situation is tensed in Maharashtra's Nashik district, after a teenage boy allegedly tried to rape a five-year-old girl near Trimbakeshwar.

The 16-year-old boy, who allegedly tried to rape the minor girl at Talegaon village, near Nashik has been taken into custody and has been booked under IPC Section 376 (rape) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The incident has triggered tension in the district. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while appealing for calm assured that the case would be tried in a fast track court. Schools and colleges remain closed in Nashik as tension escalated in the area, as the locals started protesting.

As soon as the news spread in the area, the locals staged 'rasta roko', as a result the Mumbai-Nasik highway was blocked and at some places buses were vandalised. The locals damaged the car of Special IG, Nashik Range, Vinaykumar Choube and also damaged two other police vehicles.

Enraged locals have gathered at the police station demanding that the boy be booked and arrested. The Police had to use teargas shells to control the mob.

Maharashtra's Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan visited the girl's family and assured them that charges will be framed in the case within a fortnight and it will be heard in a fast track court. He also said that the case will be taken up by senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam.
