Nathupur Villagers protest against the midnight demolition of a building
After the residents of Nathupur village held a mahapanchayat on Sunday morning to protest against the demolition drive carried out by Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon's chief Praveen Kumar on Thursday, there has been no action taken by the MCG to improve the situation.

The panchayat constituted a 31 member committee on Sunday to represent its demands and has decided to meet the MCG officials on Tuesday. Earlier, Police booked nearly 100 villagers for rioting and it is now that the villagers, with the help of political leaders are demanding that an FIR be lodged against the MCG commissioner.

The residents threatened to gherao roads if MCG launched any more demolition drives in the future. The residents also demanded compensation for the owners whose building was obliterated.

Mangat Ram Bagri, Councilor, said “ A notice should have been issued to the villagers prior to the action. Raat k andhere mein aisi kaise building giradi. Ye sab kaam to din mein hone chaie public k saamne( how can MCG demolish a building in the midst of the night. These activities should be carried out during the day, in the presence of the local people.)

People allege that Praveen Kumar had earlier created a ruckus at Sadar Bazaar as well. The properties he claims are illegal, have been here for almost 20 years. He tries to carry out demolition late in the night, which is way past the official time.

“Illegal buildings are a hallmark of all our cities. Government Officers can never do something illegitimate like this. Villagers have set their own rules and they hardly follow any of the rules of the Government. Illegal constructions can be seen all over the city” Councilor Nisha Singh said.
