Nation celebrates 70th NCC Day with great verve and enthusiasm
National Cadet Corps (NCC) is celebrating its 70th Raising Day on November 26 all over India with cadets participating in marches, cultural activities and social development programmes, stated a press release.

India's NCC is the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world with its units in senior schools, colleges and universities.  The organization's Director General Lt Gen PP Malhotra, laid a wreath on behalf of the entire NCC fraternity to kick start the celebrations.

"During the current year the NCC cadets have contributed immensely in the relief operations carried out during the Kerala floods. The cadets participated wholeheartedly in Swacchta Abhiyan, Swasth Bharat 'Yatracyclothon' and played a pivotal role in spreading awareness about various government initiatives like digital literacy, yoga, blood donation camps and immunization programs, etc.," stated the release.

On this day, I recollected my school days when, I was the member of the NCC and attended a few camps and earned a certificate and a mention of my membership was mentioned in my matriculation certificate issued by the Punjab University, Chandigarh.

Indeed, the multifaceted activities and varied curriculum of NCC provides unique opportunities to youth for self development.  Many like me remember the their NCC days which since it contributed to the development of our discipline, character, physical strength, mental fitness and stamina

Many cadets have done the nation and the organisation proud by their remarkable achievements in the fields of sports and adventure and have won many.

Yesterday, I was at Sports School at Rai in Haryana to participate in an Ex-Raists Association's meet, in which the first thing that was done to lay the wreaths at the memorial of ex-school students who while serving the defence forces laid their lives while serving and defending the country, a day ahead of the NCC Day.

In many cities, the week-long celebrations for the NCC Day kicked off with marathons. In one such event in Lucknow, Major General A.K. Sapra, Additional Director General NCC of the UP Directorate flagged off the marathon with large of cadets and youth participating in it.
