Nation celebrates Easter, PM Modi extends greetings to people
Easter is being celebrated across the world today. For Christians, Easter celebrates the rising of Christ from the grave three days after his crucifixion and death.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, while greeting the people on the occasion of Easter, in his message said, "Easter greetings to everyone! May the teachings of Jesus Christ further the spirit of harmony, compassion and togetherness in our society."

Earlier on Good Friday, Modi had expressed his esteem for the service and sacrifice of Christ whose life was devoted to mitigating human suffering. 

In the Christian majority states of Meghalaya and Mizoram, Easter Sunday is being observed with great social zeal and religious fervour in the form of candlelight processions, baptism of new-borns, and eggs and buns hunts.

In many cities of the Northeast, various band parties played the hymn 'He's arisen' early in morning. Sunrise services were held in the Churches and after special prayers and worship, the followers broke their fast since Good Friday. Preachers are holding sermons on the resurrection of Christ and on the topics of mercy and forgiveness.

Many Christian Social Cultural Organizations have organized traditional dance on Easter Sunday to extend warm welcome to witness the joyful Easter Celebrations,

The festival marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday after being crucified on Holy Friday. The event signifies Christ's victory over death after his crucifixion to redeem the world from sins and sufferings.
