Nation celebrates Vaisakhi, PM Modi greets people and remembers Jallianwala Bagh martyrs
Vaisakhi is being celebrated today which is both a historical and a religious festival in the north to mark the Sikh new year, harvest festival and commemorates the formation of Khalsa panth of warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.

Vaisakhi was also the day when the British empire officials committed the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on a gathering which intensified the freedom struggle.

In north India, on Vaisakhi, Gurdwaras have been decorated with buntings and festival lights and nagar kirtans were held this morning.

Fairs have been held in many parts of Punjab, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.

It is also the occasion to bathe in sacred rivers such as Ganges, Jhelum and Kaveri followed by visits to the temples and other worship place. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people on Vaisakhi and remembered the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh massacre. "Saluting the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Their valour & heroism will never be forgotten," the Prime Minister said.
