Nation observes 182nd birth anniversary of mystic and yogi Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, PM Modi pays tribute
The nation celebrated the 182nd birth anniversary of mystic and yogi Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, who was born on 18 February in 1836, who is said to have experienced spiritual bliss from a young age.

He is considered to be a promoter of Advaita Vedanta. Based on his precepts of life, the Ramakrishna Mission was established by his chief disciple Swami Vivekananda.

He had emphasized that God-realization as the supreme goal of all living beings. Ramakrishna taught that we needed to conquer the enemies within us which were related to gratification of senses and vagaries of mind for unreliable worldly success.

He had believed that despite the differences, all religions are valid and true and they lead to the same ultimate goal of the realization of the Supreme Being or God.

He had once said to his devotes, "It has been revealed to me that there exists an Ocean of Consciousness without limit. From it come all things of the relative plane, and in it they merge again. These waves arising from the Great Ocean merge again in the Great Ocean. I have clearly perceived all these things."

He preached his devotees to vanquish 'avidya maya' that represents dark forces of creation such as sensual desire, selfish actions, evil passions, greed, lust and cruelty which were responsible for keeping people on lower planes of consciousness as well as entrapping humans in the cycle of birth and death.

In his released message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, paid tributes to Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa on his birth anniversary and stated, "I bow to Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa on his Jayanti. He embodied the spirit of harmony and brotherhood. He dreamt of a society that is just and free from divisions."
