Nation pays homage to 'Iron Man' and 'Iron Lady' of India
On October 31, the nation paid homage to 'Iron Man' Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary and 'Iron Lady' Indira Gandhi on her martyrdom day.

President of India Ram Nath Kovind paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Rashtrapati Bhavan along with his officers and staff. Earlier this morning, the President visited Patel Chowk in New Delhi to lead the nation in paying floral tributes before the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, stated an official release.

In Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the world's tallest 182 metre statue, the 'Statue of Unity', to the nation with its 'Virtual Abhishek' and inaugurated the Wall of Unity as well as visited the Museum and Exhibition, and the Viewers' Gallery. The dedication ceremony was punctuated by flypast of IAF aircraft, and performances of cultural troupes, added an official release.

Greeting the people, he said today marks a special moment in the history of India and the Statue would continue to remind future generations of the courage, capability and resolve of Sardar Patel as well as India's march towards becoming a big economic and strategic power.

Various educational institutions also celebrated the day in Jaipur by paying tributes to Sardar Patel. In Jaipur, Jagan Nath University students were administered oath for national unity and security . "Let us take a pledge to strengthen India as a nation of unity as vibrant democracy with honesty of purpose where there is no more elections on the basis of caste and creed but purely national interest," opined Prof.M. M. Goel, President of the university.

According to Prof. Goel if Patel could have been alive today he would not have allowed regional parties to play petty politics making difficult situations for national political parties. "Let there be no place for unethical politicians who are dividing the nation on the basis of regionalism, religion and caste, told Prof. Goel.

Let voters of the forthcoming elections in five states and parliamentary elections in 2019 choose ethical politicians irrespective of party politics.  Indian democracy without corruption or favoritism  is the strength  due to the contributions of our  freedom struggle heroes like Sardar  Patel," he added.

Many political leaders paid rich tributes to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary. Top Congress leaders Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi paid floral tributes at Shakti Sthal in Delhi.

"Tributes to our former Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted. "Remembering Dadi today with a deep sense of happiness. She taught me so much and gave me unending love. She gave so much of herself to her people. I am very proud of her," Congress President Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Another Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted and remembered her as leader who lived and died for the unity and integrity of the nation.
