Public sector bank employees across India went on strike on December 16 affecting the banking operations and services across the country. The one-day nationwide bank strike was called to protest against the proposal of merging State Bank of Indore with State Bank of India.
Normal banking operations all across the country were affected but customers were able to get cash from ATMs. All India Bank Employees' Association said that 4 lakh bank employees of public sector banks went on strike after the reconciliation meeting with the management failed. The Banking union had offered to postpone the strike if the SBI management agreed to defer the merger of State Bank of Indore and continued the discussion.
