National Anthem: New guidelines for differently abled persons
Based on a court order, the Union government has issued guidelines about how certain categories of differently abled people should respect the national anthem being played or sung in public places including cinema houses.

The new guidelines expect the differently abled persons to stay skill and alert during national anthem. The physically challenged persons in wheel chairs would be required to stay still with the 'maximum possible alertness physically'.

The new guidelines also inform how the persons who are speech, hearing and mildly intellectually impaired behave during the rendering of the national anthem which requires 52-second still standing up.

However, people with severe intellectual impairment are exempted from the rules during national anthem.

This implies that the schools for children with special needs and inclusive schools would be required to teach and train children with mild and moderate impairments how to be still and respectful during singing of the national anthem in the morning assembly as well as a part of the curriculum, said Prabha Kishore, a Jaipur-based educator.
