National Doctor's Day is observed in India July 1 to raise awareness about the importance of doctors, medical professionals, para-medical professional including therapists and thank them for their dedicated services and contribution to the advancement in medicine, health and care.

This year Doctor's was observed with the theme "Zero tolerance to violence against doctors and clinical establishment" was announced by the Indian Medical Association to raise awareness about the rising violence against the doctors across India. Seemingly, at present the safety and security of doctors during their working hours has become a challenge.

In India, it is celebrated on July 1 because it is the birth and death anniversary of noted physician Dr. BC Roy who worked selflessly for his patients. The iconic symbol of Doctor's Day is a red carnation flower that stands for the doctor-worthy values of love, charity, selflessness and sacrifice.
