National Florence Nightingale Nurses Awards (FNNA) 2011 were presented by the President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on the occasion of the International Nurses Day.

ON THE occasion of the International Nurses Day (May 12), thirty five nurses received the National Florence Nightingale Nurses Awards (FNNA) 2011, which were presented by the President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.

The FNNA is given as a mark of highest recognition for meritorious services in the nursing profession in the country. Each recipient of National Florence Nightingale Nurses Award gets a cash award of Rs. 50,000, a citation and a medal. Before the award ceremony, the function was marked by offering floral tributes to the photograph of Florence Nightingale.

While lauding the work of the nurses, Patil said that the services rendered by them are appreciated across the country and throughout the world. She also called upon the nurses to take a pledge to work with the spirit of service as it was done by Florence Nightingale.

"Nursing, indeed, is a service towards humanity", said President Patil while honouring the awardees.

While addressing the audience, Patil stressed the need for making use of more technological devices and upgrading the training facilities for nurses. She lauded the role nurses as the most important link between doctors and patients. Further, she urged the nurses to be responsive to the nursing needs of patients.
