It contains two essential omega-3 fatty acids: EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) that lock the production of inflammatory chemicals called cytokines and lukotrienes. They are responsible for the whole range of painful conditions including arthritis, gout, Crohn's disease and Sinusitis. A study states eating 3gms of fish fats daily helps in relieving joint pain, inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis.
Olive oil
Olive oil contains 'oleocantha', a natural chemical that has same effect as the anti-inflammatory pain killer as ibuprofen and other NSAIDS. Around 50 grams of extra virgin olive has the same impact as 10 percent of the ibuprofen dosage. It does not work for headache, but still regular olive oil consumption is expected to provide some of the long-lasting benefits of ibuprofen.
Tart Cherries
Tart Cherries are a safer alternative to aspirin; anthocyanins in them inhibit the production of cyclo-oxigenase-1 and 2 enzymes, which cause inflammation. A research done by Michigan State University states that eating about twenty tart cherries can relieve pain better than aspirin does, and may also exhibit antioxidant properties comparable to supplements like vitamin E.
Boswellia
An Indian herb called Shallaki relieves both chronic and minor pains. The Boswellic acid in them substantially lowers the production of the inflammatory compounds called leukotrines. A study conducted on 175 rheumatoid arthritis patients, ensured that the results were comparable to those who are administering ketoprofane and phenyl beutazone, both of which have adverse side effects.
Curcumin
Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which has pain reliving effect. It blocks the inflammatory proteins and enhances body’s ability to suppress inflammation. It is used as NSAID without any side effects to internal organs also. The pain relievers found in curcumin stop the neurotransmitter substance P from sending its pain signals to the brain.
