The CPI (Maoist) Bansadhara Divisional Committee has called a 48 hours bandh from Tuesday (May 18) in five states in protest of operation 'Green Hunt'. The bandh call is also to protest against Center's decision to sell 10 per cent government stake.
THE BANSADHARA Divisional Committee of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) has called for a bandh on May 21, 2010, in Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Rayagada districts of South Orissa to protest against operation ‘Green Hunt’. Further the top Maoist leader M Koteswar Rao alias Kishanji, who is also one of the central committee members announced a forty eight hours shutdown in Orissa, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh from Tuesday (May 18).
According to the sources of information, this bandh call is to protest against Center’s decision to sell 10 per cent government stake in ten profit making public sector undertakings and handing over fifteen thousand acres of land to the steel making company POSCO in Orissa.
Maoist blasted the office building and godown of Telirai Panchayat under Kalimela Block of Malkangiri district in Orissa on Friday (May 14) night. The building damaged completely. The Maoist organised a meeting before blowing up the buildings to explain the reasons. The Maoist also pasted wall posters on the walls of the damaged buildings. The posters claim that the buildings were blasted because they were meant to provide shelter to the police force. The police forces use these buildings for anti Naxal operations. The Maoist also advised the villagers in the meeting not to co-operate the police force who are expected to hunt the tribals under the banner of operation ‘Green Hunt’. Earlier, a couple of days back, a boat man of River Sabari at Moto under Malkangiri district of Orissa was warned by the Naxalites not to use the boat for the transportation of materials belonging to the police force.
